What is "Unfazed Leadership?"

Ed O'Neal @ Sydney BridgeClimb 2019

Merriam-Webster defines “Unfazed” as “Undaunted.” Which is further defined as:

"...courageously resolute especially in the face of danger or difficulty : not discouraged”

As a leader you build confident resilience in yourself and your team by remaining unfazed despite the difficulties and opposition you face.

In Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” he tees up this idea in the first stanza:

“If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise”

I encourage you to read or re-read Kipling’s remaining three stanzas for more application of this idea, then answer these questions:

What is it you and your team are facing today?

Are you fearful, losing confidence, losing hope?

What is one step you can take today which will move you in the right direction?

Will you take that step?

Will you have the courage find even a small thing you can achieve today?

Will you build the confidence you need to take a second step... and a third?

Will you be Unfazed?
